Graphic Design for the Documentary HOME HOME HOME
Challenge
HOME HOME HOME is a documentary portraying the lives of six individuals who immigrated to Düsseldorf and now call two places their home.
It explores emotional contrasts, challenges, and the beauty of belonging in more than one culture.
For the animated graphic elements, a visual system was developed that connects both the city of Düsseldorf and the personal stories of the protagonists.
Despite the very different colours and moods in the original footage, the graphics needed to integrate seamlessly without distracting from the narrative.
Delivery
A collage-style approach was chosen, with Düsseldorf Red as the central accent.
Photographs were converted to black and white to establish a unified look across the documentary. Deliberately placed rough edges in forms and lines were used as a design motif to reflect the characters’ diverse experiences, backgrounds, and journeys.
